AccessAsia Advanced Search Help The AccessAsia Advanced Search allows users to select the database fields on which they wish to search. Fields are selected by using the pull-down boxes in the left-hand column, and search terms are entered into the corresponding space in the right-hand column. Rows are automatically connected with the Boolean operator AND. Example:
This search would find specialists residing in the United States who list Japan as a geographic area of expertise and who list defense as a research area of expertise. Boolean Searching Within each field, the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT can be used. Example 1:
This example would return listings for specialists who list "keiretsu" in any field, who reside in the United States or Japan, and who speak Japanese and English. Boolean operators can be combined to create very specific searches. Operators are executed from left to right, and can be grouped by parentheses. Example 2:
In the example above, (taiwan OR philippines) is
considered one term. Thus, all records returned by this search will contain either
Taiwan or Philippines, and all will contain democratization.
